Educators who earned their teaching credential in another state will be able to lead a classroom by demonstrating competency, rather than having to earn another degree or participate in redundant training under a bill signed last week by Gov. Jerry Brown.
Authored by Assemblyman O’Donnell and sponsored by CSBA, the bill eliminates the requirement that effective educators trained in another state earn a master’s degree or demonstrate 150 hours of professional development in order to earn a Clear Credential in CA.
Supporters of the bill have said that by removing unnecessary barriers, CA schools will be better able to recruit qualified out-of-state educators who can fill classroom vacancies. Prior to its signing, the bill was supported by the Association of CA School Administrators, CA Charter Schools Association, CA State PTA, and CA Teachers Association, among other organizations.
