Millions in Funding for School Nutrition Infrastructure

The recently approved State Budget includes $600 million for local educational agencies (LEAs) to spend on kitchen infrastructure upgrades, increasing a school’s capacity to prepare meals. California will be the first state in the country to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for all school children beginning in the 2022–23 school year.

First portion of funding will be provided through the California Department of Education (CDE) to LEAs in grants of up to $100,000.
