The appearance of two sinkholes on campus might change back-to-school plans for students at Garrison Elementary in Oceanside.
The first sinkhole, which is about 5 feet long by 4 feet wide, formed in February in a landscaped area at the back of the campus, said Shannon Soto, associate superintendent of business services. In May, school officials discovered a second sinkhole, about 4 feet long by 1 foot wide on a blacktop area, near the basketball courts. It’s unclear how deep they are, she said, but the school placed them off limits.
The school has been working with geologists to determine what caused the sinkholes, Soto said, but so far, their investigation hasn’t turned up answers.
