San Diego County’s annual Orchids and Onions competition was celebrated recently and Oceanside Unified School District was a big winner in the Orchid category. Oceanside High School’s new Performing Arts Center was a surprising example of money going to the arts in an inspiring, beautiful, and unique design from the typically cash-strapped public school system. The architect was Jennette M. La Quire of Harley Ellis Devereaux.
Architects in San Diego covet the Orchid award from the San Diego Architectural Organization. It was started by the local American Institute of Architects — with the goal to make the city a better place to live. The competition is now in its 42nd year.
