To help keep the school operating after the Slater Fire burned through Happy Camp the fall of 2020, the school built a mobile home park on campus for displaced teachers and staff while their homes were, and are still being rebuilt. The fire destroyed nearly 200 structures, including the homes of 10 of the 22 people working for the school district.
Rental properties and houses to buy in the area were already scarce prior to the fire. While the mobile homes and trailers provide a short-term solution to the housing issue, there are no easy solutions to the long-term recovery of the community and the school district.
